YGTTA double crown for Ananya Basak

Ananya Basak of Khurda lived up to her reputation as the No 1 woman paddler of Odisha, bagging a double in the 23rd YGTTA All-Odisha Open Table Tennis Tournament, which concluded at Sachin Tendulkar Indoor Hall, Barabati Stadium here today. Daughter of former National champions Arup Basak and Kanchan Dhawan, Ananya won the two titles in junior girls` and women`s singles events.

Sushree Patnaik, Sahil Sunder Bhuyan, Payal Pani, Arya S Mahaprasastha, M Ishwar, Bikash Singh and Tausif Haque claimed the other seven titles of the three-day tournament, which was organised by Young Generation Table Tennis Association (YGTTA).

Meanwhile, Ispat English Medium School, Loyala School, KIIT International School and Stewart School emerged champions in the State Inter-School Table Tennis Championship, which also ended at the same venue today. The four champion teams will represent Odisha in the National Inter-School Championships, scheduled to be held at Indore (MP) in September.

Barabati, Cuttack MLA Debashis Samantray handed over the prizes at the common closing function. Odisha State Table Tennis Association secretary Rabindra Kumar Parida and organising secretary Nihar Ranjan Mishra were present on the occasion.

Sub-junior girls: Payal Pani (Khurda) beat Saloni Patnaik (BBS) 4-3 (8-11, 11-7, 11-8, 10-12, 11-3, 5-11, 11-4). Sub-junior boys: Arya S Mahaprasastha (Cuttack) beat Sahil Sunder Bhuyan 4-3 (16-14, 8-11, 11-2, 5-11, 11-5, 7-11, 11-8). Junior girls: Ananya Basak (Khurda) beat Suryasmita Aparajita (BBS) 4-0 (11-4, 11-9, 11-3 , 11-4). Junior boys: M Ishwar (Cuttack) beat Janmenjay Moharana (RSP) 4-1 (11-9, 11-3, 11-2, 5-11, 11-8). Youth boys: Bikash Singh (RSP) beat M Ishwar 4-3 (6-11, 11-7, 5-11, 4-11, 11-2, 11-6, 11-5). Women: Ananya Basak beat Samartha Prusty (BBS) 4-1 (11-9, 9-11, 11-5, 11-4, 11-8). Men: Tausif Haque (East Coast Railway) beat Sagar Ghatge (AG Odisha) 4-1 (15-17, 11-8, 11-6, 14-12, 20-18).
